Happy 16th birthday Alex!

Today is my cousin Alex's 16th birthday.
Watch "Sixteen Candles-The Crests-1958" on YouTube

Alex is second to youngest cousin, we don't get to see each other very often. She's a beautiful, smart, funny young girl and I love her dearly. I hope she has the best 16th birthday ever!

Back on track

The Tour has ended and now I will resume my regular blogging schedule. I am looking to re-vamp my blog and network with other blogs. I got some advice from a old co-worker who blogs for a living. She gave me some helpful hints and I may be close to making some extra money here.

Life has been busy this summer. Conner is taking water polo and Elizabeth is taking Tennis. I've been cleaning all week and re-decorating my bedroom. We've gone swimming a few time. Just enjoying summer.

Time to start planning the school year is looming, I have most everything in place but have a few key items to purchase still. I also have to clean out the school cupboard and get rid of unused books. That's going to be a chore in itself. I also have thank you notes to send out from the time of transplant.

Speaking of transplant, Marty is doing well. We went to see Dr.H this week for his monthly check up and his creatinine was 1.3. What a relief and happy thing to hear. Talked to a old friend who had a kidney transplant 19 years ago, he is still going strong and is considered a miracle. Gives us great hope that Marty's can last that long also.

You Know It's July When?

  • July brings about crazy and odd behaviors from me.
You know its July when:

Your husband tells people he's lost you to the tv.

You bring the tour into random conversation, where uninterested people feign interest.

When you refuse to answer the phone before 11am because you can't be bothered to talk people.

You refuse to make plans to do anything that interferes with tv coverage if the race.

When you have a friend take your kids to their lessons or make them late so you can watch the sprint finish.

When you have to explain why your nails are painted yellow, green, white and polka dot.

When you live on European time in the US. Mid day naps from waking up at 4:30 am everyday.

I slept in this morning and one of my new cycling Twitter friends AntKristi said, "there's no sleeping in July. Just like there's no crying in baseball."

When you lose your voice from screaming at the tv during sprint's and mountain stages.

Instead of reading or watching the local news, you read blogs and reports from the tour all day.

That's my list, I'm sure others have habits they could add to the list.

Cycling Mom's Need Maids in July

I was steam mopping my floors the other day after waking up at 3:30 am to watch Le Tour and had a grand idea, I need a maid in July!

This keeping a clean house gets in the way of my tour viewing. Who needs clean dishes or clothes? Home cooked meals?Maybe we need a cook too?

This morning I was chatting @gogirlpeep and she liked the idea. She is tweeting her heart out to get other moms to join the revolution! We think #cyclemomsneedmaidsinjuly.

Maybe we can start a camp for tour orphan children while we are at it? Poor kids, forced to keep odd hours and entertain themselves while mommy watches tv for four hours and tweets after. They could have fun at #tourorphanchildrencampinjuly!

This is tongue in cheek but we all know the truth hurts!

Conversations with A Non Cycling Fan

My Dad just called and made the mistake of asking me about the Tour. He's a nice dad always wanting to know what is going on in my life. He isn't a cycling fan and only knows what I tell him. After about 10 minutes of me droning on, I think he was done listening. I knew this but didn't stop because I had a lot to say.

My nails have started many conversations. People ask, smile as I explain but after a certain point; their eyes glaze over, they start nodding and a fake smile gets plastered on their face. They regret asking, I know this but unfortunately cannot stop myself. The excitment of the Tour is something I want to share and I want other people to like the sport. This isn't the case in my world.

I've had several conversations on Twitter with others, this response is typical it seems. I don't think any of us are going to stop though, so a word to the non cycling fans............don't ask if you aren't prepared for a 20 minute conversation.

Tour fever

I'm blogging over at www.mamacyclingfan.posterous.com during the Tour De France. Things may be a little quiet over here for now.

Just wanted to give a heads up.
